What Bedrock.LA Was
Bedrock.LA represented a fundamentally different model from hourly rehearsal studios. Instead of booking time in a shared room, you rent your own room on a monthly basis. The room is yours—you leave your gear set up, you come and go whenever you want with your key, and nobody else uses your space. For bands that are tired of the load-in/load-out cycle and want a home base for their music, the lockout model is compelling.
Located on the edge of Echo Park near Silver Lake, Bedrock benefited from the neighborhood's creative energy. The area is home to galleries, studios, venues, and a community of artists across disciplines. There was a sense that the building itself was part of a larger creative ecosystem, and the musicians who held rooms at Bedrock tended to be the kind of people who appreciated that connection.
The Space
Bedrock's rooms are essentially soundproofed boxes—four walls, basic electrical, and a door with a lock. You bring your own gear, set it up how you like, and the room becomes your permanent rehearsal space. The quality of soundproofing varies by room, and some bleed between adjacent rooms is common, particularly at high volumes with bass-heavy material.
The facilities are basic. Don't expect lounge areas, vending machines, or a staffed front desk. Bedrock is a warehouse-style building that's been divided into rehearsal rooms, and it retains that industrial character. Bathrooms are shared, common areas are minimal, and the overall aesthetic is raw rather than polished. For some musicians, this is part of the appeal. For others, it's a drawback.
The Neighborhood Factor
The Echo Park / Silver Lake corridor has its own parking realities — street parking can be tight, particularly in the evenings, and the area has gentrified rapidly over the past decade. The neighborhood is creative, dense, and well-connected to the rest of east LA, but the late-night dynamics are different from, say, Santa Monica. A couple of bands we talked to mentioned this as a minor consideration, not a dealbreaker.
Value Assessment
Monthly lockout pricing at Bedrock varies based on room size, but expect to pay several hundred dollars per month for a basic room. The value proposition works if you rehearse frequently enough that the per-session cost drops below what you'd pay at an hourly room, and if the convenience of leaving your gear set up justifies the monthly commitment.
However, because Bedrock rooms come empty—no backline, no PA, no drums—you need to factor in the cost of outfitting your room. A basic rehearsal setup (PA, monitors, drum kit, amps) represents a significant upfront investment. Compare this to The Recording Club, where professional backline is included in every room and maintained by the facility.
Pros
- Monthly lockout—leave gear set up permanently
- 24/7 key access
- Creative Echo Park / Silver Lake community
- Your room, your setup, your rules
Cons
- Echo Park parking can be tight
- Rooms come empty—bring all your own gear

- Monthly commitment required
Who It's Best For
Bedrock.LA is ideal for established bands who own their own backline, rehearse frequently, and want a permanent room where they can leave everything set up. It's the right model for bands who are writing, recording demos on their own equipment, and need maximum flexibility. It's less suited for musicians who don't own a full backline or who want the convenience of walking into a room that's ready to play.
